Cremation services are as much about your family as they are about you after you pass on.  Your family will need to get closure over the situation, and they will need to be able to say goodbye to you. What can you do for them to help them with that process? By planning in advance, you can put whatever details into place that you want. Perhaps you know you want cremation, but you want them to plan the memorial service so they can do things for themselves through that process. Or, maybe you want to move forward and plan absolutely everything so they don’t have to worry about anything.

Consider what types of services your family has had for other loved ones in the past. Were there things that seemed particularly soothing? Did they like having hymns or a certain type of music? Maybe your family does better with celebrations of life where they can talk about the deceased and share happy memories. Whatever you think would be best for your family, you can organize while you get into the details of your cremation service.

Some families like to have full funeral services and you can do that with cremation as well. You simply have the visitation and funeral first, then go into the cremation process. If that’s what suits your family best, it’s certainly an option to consider. Or, you can go the other route and get a direct cremation done. That type of cremation happens soon after death without any services beforehand. There can still be memorial services after, though.
